Once upon a time there were no rivers and lakes in China. Four dragons lived in the sea: the black dragon, the yellow dragon, the long dragon and the pearl dragon. They visited the centre of China. The people were sad and hungry. There was no rice. There was no rain.

The dragons transported water from the sea to the people. The emperor was angry. He trapped the dragons with mountains. But the dragons still helped people: there were now four big rivers in China, the Yellow River, the Black River, the Long River and the Pearl River.
